Why do Bollywood films sing and dance? This talk will introduce and categorise important and popular dance forms in Hindi films in context of their respective source influences to enable a beginner’s appreciation. It will also provide a guide to viewing this versatile onscreen dance form through its cinematic evolution over a span of over 100 years (1900s – present day).

 

Piyush is a Mumbai-based film journalist, writer and critic, currently pursuing his MSc in Film Studies at the University of Edinburgh
