The Green Table is Kurt Jooss' most important choreographic work. Created in 1932, It won first prize at an international competition for newchoreography in Paris. The piece was a powerful anti-war statement, expressed through a compelling dance narrative. After fleeing Nazi Germany, Jooss established a school at Dartington Hall in Devon and it was here that Sheila Hargreaves attended a summer school in 1948, receiving a scholarship to study with Jooss' teacher and friend Rudolf von Laban the following year.
Sheila Hargreaves has worked extensively in creative dance and movement in education at all levels. This will be a unique opportunity to hear about how her experiences during a fascinating and influential period in dance history have influenced her own work.
