Inside the CircleSunday 21st November
Directed by Marcy Garriot, 2007, USA, 100mins (PG)
Capturing the raw power of a grassroots hip-hop movement in the heart of Texas, Inside the Circle tells the story of two strikingly talented b-boys, Josh and Omar, former best friends who become rivals when they join competing dance crews. Immersed in the b-boy culture of defiant creativity, Omar rises to international renown while Josh tangles with the Texas criminal justice system. Both of them struggle to keep dance at the centre of their lives, and the “B-Boy City” competitive events thrown by visionary street dancer Romeo Navarro serve as emotional milestones in their journey to adulthood. Facing off in intense dance battles that mirror the larger events in their lives, Josh and Omar seek redemption, identity and respect “inside the circle.” Part of the documentary programme of DANCE:FILM 09.

But surely a welder who dances in a nightclub can’t do that? Of course you can, with a little help from her boss whom she falls in love with. You just can’t beat the 80s-ness of the film with a cracking soundtrack to match. So come along and be a maniac!
Flashdance 80s Tastic Jazz WorkshopSunday 21st November
With Chris Stuart Wilson, ALL LEVELS
It’s time to take a step back into the 80s with one of the most popular films of the decade. Flashdance touches our hearts because it allows us to believe that we can all achieve something despite our limitations. It doesn’t matter if you are a welder by day – you can still be a kick-ass dancer! This workshop will bring out your inner dancer, turning you into an 80s jazz-tastic extrovert who leaps and slides and jumps and dives! Dressing up is totally acceptable and if you have something you can strip out of (like overalls, labcoats, scrubs, aprons etc) it may enhance your transformation! What a feeling!
